Activision is developing some sort of James Bond GoldenEye game

After the lukewarm reception to the game version of Quantum of Solace, Activision seems to have a plan to tug at the nostalgic heartstrings of gamers with their next James Bond game.

Modern Warfare 2 features a 3rd person mode

I honestly thought we had seen or at least were informed of all the big additions in Modern Warfare 2. Aside from further revealing the perks, weapons, and the single-player levels it seemed like Infinity Ward and Activsion had shown us most of the goodness that’s in store for us. Well, that could be farther from the truth based on yet another bootleg video that has surfaced today.

DJ Hero sales may not be the hot fire we expected

I usually don’t like to look into what industry analysts have to say since most of the time they’re talking out of their ass. But I couldn’t help but slightly interested in what analyst Doug Creutz had to say about the sales of Activision’s DJ Hero.

According to Creutz demand for the game is “well below” expectations based on a survey taken with online retailers.  Creutz goes on to say that the game could only sell 600,000 units in Q4 which is a nice amount but is a far from previous estimates that had the game at 1.6m units.

Netflix coming to PlayStation Network in November

Xbox Live has been touting their partnership with Netflix for sometime now. When Sony won the format wars with the inclusion of Blu Ray, Microsoft made the leap to be the first into the digital market. Since then the serve has done rather well on Xbox Live, and now it would seem as though Sony would like a slice of the pie.

Earlier the VP of Corporate Communications for Sony posted on the PlayStation blog that a deal has been finalized with Netflix to be able to offer streaming movies/tv over the PlayStation Network for a cost of $8.99 per month.

[Movie Review] Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant is an easy going and enjoyable vampire film

Overall Feeling:

Cirque du Freak surprised me as it's a film that despite being aimed towards a younger audience is still enjoyable to watch. The film never once comes across as a film for kids or tweens and as a whole the movie is executed quite well. Aside from a few issues Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant is a movie that's worth checking out in the theaters or at least a rental if you like fantasy films.

The Pros:

Nice acting from John C. Reilly and the supporting cast. Good visuals from a design standpoint that offer things that most of us haven't seen before. The movie does a good job of not cramming too much mythology down our throats or giving us too much info at once. Good story that hints at an extremely deep world of mythology that only the surface was scratched on in the film.

The Cons:

The plot is fairly predictable and the slight corny factor in the dialogue may turn some off. It would've been nice if there was some more depth given to members of the Cirque du Freak. The directing could've been a bit sharper in the fighting scenes which suffer from the popular shaky close cam effect. At times you can tell stuff was removed from the film which makes the pace seem faster than it should be.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is the latest film based on a popular book series to come via Hollywood in the hopes that it’ll be a success of Harry Potter proportions and not another flop like Eragon.  The film seems to be hoping to ride on the recent vampire tidal wave that has hit with the success of things like True Blood and the ever infamous Twilight series.  Despite being a kid friendly vampire movie that has an entirely different set of vampire rules that most are familiar with, Cirque du Freak is a film is

EA could be reverting to their old ways with this new pre-order bonus for Army of Two: The 40th Day

As of late Electronic Arts has been on a pretty good path.  This generation they’ve managed to change their reputation from being the “evil empire” that gamers across the globe hate and are now a company known for producing quality games such as Dead Space.

[Review] Brutal Legend isn’t quite the legendary game some had hoped it would be

Overall Feeling:

Brutal Legend is the very definition of a mixed bag. The game has a story which has a perfect amount of humor and heart that takes some nice shots at the past and present of rock music. But the various game mechanics the game gives the player just aren’t as refined and fun as they could be which makes Brutal Legend a game that is more fun to watch someone else play or to simply watch the cutscenes on YouTube.

The Pros:

The story is really enjoyable despite the few issues it has. Jack Black and the other voice actors and accompanying rock legends all turn in excellent performances where the core of the character is front and center and not celeb doing the voice. Simply amazing art design that makes this insane rock infused world believable and more importantly entertaining to explore. Awesome rock soundtrack with tons of legendary bands.

The Cons:

Game just isn’t that fun to play. Regular combat is okay but not that deep and the RTS sections drag on a bit due to their length and lack of intense action and core mechanics that may be too much to handle for some people. The story while fun feels like it's missing a good chunk of content that would've fleshed a lot of things out. The game lacks longevity due to a story mode that can be completed in around five hours and secondary missions which aren't that compelling.

When it comes to music and concerts in particular the most unsung heroes are the roadies.  Despite the bands performance and what sort of show they put on none of that would be possible without the hard work roadies put into the show. Whether it’s through tuning the instruments or erecting the massive stage that the musicians perform on, roadies are the true backbone of the band and concert. Perhaps the best roadie in the business is Eddie Riggs.

Things get surreal in this new No More Heroes 2 trailer

We all know that No More Heroes 2 is going to be a crazy game with tons of weird stuff in it, which is why we all love it, but when we see a girl weilding giant anime arms who makes a strange squeal when hit I think the game has reached an all new level of strangeness.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a new owner

I don't think we should worry about this but today Viacom has just bought the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise from Mirage and 4Kids Entertainment.  In particular the Nickelodeon branch of Viacom is the new home for the Turtles.

Along with the already known about live-action reboot there's also plans for a CG cartoon to coincide with the release of the film in 2012.

Another Sony controller patent has surfaced

Siliconera has found yet another Sony controller patent. This latest patent doesn’t seem to feature the motion tech since it doesn’t have the trademark sphere and it almost looks like it could be a new iteration for the Buzz controller.

But it could be possible that this new controller could be used with one motion controller for games that require more buttons.  Though if that’s the case Sony really needs to add an analog stick and some shoulder buttons to the thing.

[Review] FIFA 10 falls just short of perfection on account of a few faults and a lot of bugs

Overall Feeling:

As sporting games go, FIFA 10 is as close to its sport as you’re ever likely to find. With its realistic gameplay, stunning visuals and first rate commentary, you’ll never feel closer to the game of football. Had it not been for a few niggling faults and the presence of a host of bugs, EA Canada may well have created the perfect sports game.

The Pros:

Last years gameplay has been improved upon again, ironing out most of the little things that held FIFA 09 back. The visuals are as stunning as ever, the commentary from Gray and Tlydesley is engaging and genuinely adds to the experience. Virtual Pro is huge improvement over last year’s Be A Pro mode allowing you to use your superstar in all the games modes. Add to this, an improved Manager mode, and FIFA 10 has a lot to offer you.

The Cons:

The game still retains a few of the issues of previous generations, namely some unfair match-ups against the computer, as well as cheap AI that results in unrealistic players. Despite the visuals, player faces still look weird, particularly for those in lower leagues. The game has a notable amount of minor bugs – well over 70. Not game breaking in any way, but they do take the shine off a very professional game.

The FIFA series is certainly one of EA's biggest, however for many of the initial years the game lacked any real depth making it only appealing to those whose primary focus was how good a game looked. A man by the name of David Rutter (a self-proclaimed Pro Evolution Soccer fan) was so dismayed by the FIFA series that he supposedly wrote a letter to EA in which he stated over 100 elements of the game that should be improved. David Rutter is now the producer for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of FIFA.

Namco Bandai's latest game could be the biggest rip-off we've seen

It’s common for a game to perhaps borrow an idea or major feature from a popular game such as games borrowing the cover mechanics from Gears of War which itself was taken from the game kill.Switch.  However, we sometimes see a game that so unabashedly copies a particular game or a series of games that you can’t help but shake your head in disgust.  The latest game that will surely evoke tons of groans from gamers is Namco Bandai’s Inversion.

[Review] Boxhead: The Zombie Wars makes a sadly awkward leap to your iPhone

Overall Feeling:

Amazing original source material that is crippled by awkward controls and watered down game modes. The hurt is made worse by the fact the original browser game has more modes, settings and is FREE.

The Pros:

Awesome combo system, same great graphics and zombie blasting gameplay as its classic online version.

The Cons:

Slowed down gameplay. Frustrating touch controls. Watered down game modes. High price point considering cons and the fact a HUGE free flash version exists.

Once upon a time a flash game genius by the name of Sean Cooper created an addictive little online title by the name of Boxhead: The Zombie Wars. A good friend of mine showed me this game and the first night I found it I was up until four in the morning playing through wave after wave of zombies, mummies, vampires, and demons.
